Although famed game director and Platinum Games game designer Hideki Kamiya is keeping busy with a number of different projects, he always has time to reflect on the classics that made his career, including favorites like Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and Okami – a game that will be getting a re-release next month.

With that, he recently spoke with Dengeki PlayStation about how he’d love to return to those franchises someday, even if that means working with the people at Capcom again. He mentioned, “I want to work on a Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe remake, or a true sequel for Okami,” as translated by Siliconera.
But he also made interesting note of a potential crossover project, involving two unique superstars. “A cooperation with Dante (from Devil May Cry) and Bayonetta might also be fun.”
Kamiya was a key player in working on various franchises for Capcom, including Resident Evil 2, Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry, so it only makes sense that he would want to come back and work on them again.
It really all hinges on one particular title for the moment – Okami HD. The game, which originally came out for PlayStation 2 before being followed up with enhanced Wii and PlayStation 3 ports, has been gaining huge cult status amongst fans, who will be able to re-discover it all over again when it releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on December 12th.
If it performs well enough, Capcom may explore the idea of doing more HD remakes, and that would be where games like Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry could come in. The company hasn’t announced its future plans as of yet, but we could see an announcement coming up at PlayStation Experience that details what it’s working on next, besides the third season of Street Fighter V and the forthcoming DLC for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
We’d definitely take a Viewtiful Joe Trilogy. That’d be insanely hot.
