5 Great Horror Games You Didn’t Know Were on Xbox Game Pass

October might be prime time for all things scary, but there’s never a wrong time to enjoy a solid horror game. But as much as gamers might enjoy being a little spooked, that jump scare shouldn’t come from the price tag. Thanks to subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, it’s easier to try out a ton of new games without having to commit to full price for every addition to your library. And there are actually several solid horror games available on Xbox Game Pass right now.

The Xbox Game Pass library is constantly changing, with new games coming and going every month. But many games stay on the subscription service for a good long while, giving fans plenty of time to experience full playthroughs. Plus, there are games of just about every genre available at any given time. And that includes games that go bump in the night. If you’re looking for your next horror game, these games currently on Game Pass will definitely deliver.

5) Little Nightmares 2

If you like your psychological horror with a side of puzzles, Little Nightmares 2 will deliver. This unsettling adventure is technically a sequel, but you don’t need to have played the first game to enjoy the shivers this story will send down your spine.

The Enhanced Edition of the 2021 release is currently available with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. The visual upgrades and ray-traced reflections make this suspenseful game even more terrifying. Little Nightmares 2 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass Standard or Ultimate.

4) Carrion

Would you prefer to be the thing that goes bump in the night, rather than be hunted by it? Carrion delivers just that experience, letting you be the amorphous creature stalking your prey in the night. As you progress through the game, you’ll acquire new powers to become even more terrifying.

Carrion uses pixel graphics, but that doesn’t make this so-called “reverse horror” game any less frightful. It delivers plenty of pixel gore, with some violent Metroidvania vibes to boot. Through Xbox Game Pass Standard or Ultimate, you can play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox Cloud Gaming.

3) Inscryption

For the horror gaming fan who’s also into card battlers and roguelikes, allow me to present Inscryption, which arrived on Game Pass in October 2024. Card battle your way through a terrifying escape room full of psychological horrors. As you explore and try to find your way out, you’ll uncover unsettling new secrets lurking within.

Inscryption is a blend of genres that come together to create a phenomenally spooky experience. Everything from the hand-drawn cards to the darkness of the cabin you explore stacks up to a forboding atmosphere that will scare and delight horror fans. It is playable on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S via any Game Pass subscription tier.

2) Resident Evil 2

The Resident Evil games are horror classics, and a handful of them are currently on Game Pass. This includes Resident Evil 2, which often ranks among the best games in the series. This game follows upon the events of Resident Evil, but does a good job of catching the player up if this is your first entry into the series. You’ll try to survive as you navigate Raccoon City, recently infected by a deadly virus outbreak.

With the next game in the series finally announced, now is a great time to go back for Resident Evil 2. You can play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Xbox Cloud Gaming with any Xbox Game Pass subscription tier.

1) Dead by Daylight

I couldn’t round out the list without a solid survival horror option, and of course, multiplayer Dead By Daylight has to be the pick. This PvP game pits players against one another as a killer tries to hunt down the other players. If you want to get scared with your friends, there are few better options for online multiplayer haunts.

The Xbox Game Pass edition of the game includes 7 Killers,9 Survivors, and two cosmetic DLC packs. Dead By Daylight is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. There is also a Windows version available for PC players. The game is included with all Xbox Game Pass tiers.
