Injustice 2 stars a murderer’s row of talented, fan-favorite movie and voice actors, including Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series), Alan Tudyk (Rogue One), Tara Strong (Powerpuff Girls), and none other than Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund.

Englund sets aside the usual striped sweater and fedora to play Scarecrow, which is just about as perfect as casting gets. Englund’s performance is a little different than some past Scarecrows, but it definitely fits, and now when you beat your friends with Scarecrow the loss will continue to haunt them IN THEIR DREEEEAMS!

When Englund was announced for Injustice 2, you knew some sort of Freddy Krueger reference was going to end up in the game, and sure enough, YouTuber Dynasty has found one. This is real deep cut, referencing one of the less-popular A Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, but hardcore fans should recognize it.

Once you knock off a certain amount of life as Scarecrow, the character may utter the line “Now I’m playing with power!” That may just sound like a random video game reference, but it’s actual a direct quote from Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. In that rather-regrettable entry, Freddy traps a kid into a sadistic video game, then turns his user razor glove into a “Power Glove” while dropping his take on Nintendo’s slogan at the time. You can check out the Injustice 2 clip above, and Freddy’s less-than-terrifying kill, below.

Of all the Freddy Krueger references they could have used, this is the one they went for? Oh well, I suppose a lot of the better ones would have got them an M-rating.

Injustice 2 is available now on Xbox One and PS4. You can check WWG’s latest coverage of Injustice 2 here, and our extensive back catalog of stories, right here.
