Finally! After weeks of silence (it’s felt like years), NetherRealm Studios has announced a new Injustice 2 Watchtower stream for this Friday, July 7. If you’ll take a look at the announcement tweet, it’s pretty obvious who the star of the show is going to be:

“This Friday, at 1PM PDT / 3PM CDT, come chill with us for a special Watchtower stream!” Well I wonder which brand new DLC character they’re going to want to show off on Friday? Obviously we’re about to get our first in-depth look at Sub-Zero, which has been long overdue. Sub-Zero is already technically in the game, you can see all of his incredible gear and even a Reptile shader in the gallery below, but we won’t be able to choose and play as him until July 11.
The Watchtower streams are always our go-to when we need the scoop on new characters. Whether you’re a casual player who just loves dipping into the bizarre Injustice mashup lore, or a competitive fiend who wants to get a leg up on the competition as soon as possible, the Watchtower is your chance to see the developers and QA members go hands on with these new characters and show off the most effective ways to use their abilities, pokes, combos, and counters.
As far as Sub-Zero is concerned, from the little bit of action we saw in his introduction trailer, he looks like more of a close range fighter. Nothing we saw there led us to believe that he’ll have very much in his arsenal in terms of zoning and playing keepaway, but he does have some strong mid-range hazards and projectiles that should keep opponents guessing (hopefully guessing incorrectly) when they can and cannot safely close the distance. Coating the ground in ice, leaving behind a frozen shell that instantly freezes opponents, and a few aggressive throws should be enough to keep overly aggressive players at bay.
After tomorrow’s stream and Tuesday’s launch, Starfire will be the only remaining character from the first Fighter Pack that we have left to see. We’re not even close to being finished yet, however. There are still six unknown DLC characters coming down the pipe, and we may even get another Mortal Kombat guest character before it’s all said and done. Stay tuned to WWG for all of the latest!
