Kingdom Hearts games are, of course, packed with beloved Disney icons, but typically, main character Sora is the only character you actually play with. Well, that won’t be the case in Kingdom Hearts III, as they game will have a duo of playable characters.
“So, it would be tough to introduce many, multiple playable characters, but there is an intention of adding a playable character aside from Sora. Unfortunately, we’re not able to disclose who it is yet, but there will be another playable character.”
So, who could it be? Don’t expect anyone Disney-related โ Kingdom Hearts games only let you directly play as the series’ original characters. Past KH games have let you play as Sora’s buddy and fellow Keyblade master Riku, as well as Sora’s Nobody, Roxas. The last Kingdom Hearts III trailer teased Roxas is coming back, so he’s a likely candidate, but KH fans certainly love them some Riku. We’ll just have to wait to find out.
Speaking of characters, Nomura also discussed why you can now have more than two support characters with you in battle. The reason is pretty simpleโฆ
“It was actually a compromise in a previous [Kingdom Hearts iterations] because we were not able to display multiple characters. We’re now able to depict multiple characters. Up to five people can join, even more, multiple characters can join your party.”
Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled to hit the Xbox One and PS4 sometime in 2018. You can check out WWG’s latest coverage of the game, right here.
