Konami is pondering over which Metal Gear Solid game it should remake next. Remakes are becoming an increasingly popular type of game these days as the industry has evolved so much since the PS1/PS2 eras. Not only are there entire generations of gamers that missed some of the greatest games from that time period, but there are games that can now really meet their full potential thanks to evolutions in storytelling, graphics, and game design. Not every game is made better with remakes, but it does at least help make it more up to snuff for “modern” audiences. Classics like Resident Evil, Silent Hill 2, and now Metal Gear Solid 3 have all benefited from these remakes.

With the roaring success of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, many are naturally questioning what comes next. Does Konami make a brand new Metal Gear game altogether? Do we get another collection of remasters like the one released a couple of years ago? Or does Konami try and faithfully remake yet another Metal Gear Solid game? Well, it seems like the answer may be the last one based on new rumblings in the Metal Gear community.
Konami Surveys Fans on Next Metal Gear Solid Remake
As spotted by Metal Gear Network, Konami released a survey ahead of its upcoming broadcast for Tokyo Game Show. The publisher is asking fans which Metal Gear Solid game they want to see get the remake treatment next. The options included the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake along with the mainline Metal Gear Solid games plus Peacewalker. Games like Metal Gear Survive were excluded, but fans can also request a remake of the now 10-year old Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain if they wish, but it’s hard to imagine Konami remaking a game that still holds up so well and is readily available on modern hardware.
Additionally, Konami wants to know what people want to see in future broadcasts about the franchise, including future developments on other Metal Gear Solid games and news on Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. It seems like fans will probably want remakes of Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 4 the most with the first one being pretty old and the latter being very inaccessible since it was a PS3 exclusive.
As of right now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens but it’s clear that the Metal Gear Solid series is really important to Konami once again. It seems likely Metal Gear Solid 6 will happen, even if it’s not called that specifically. It’s hard to imagine Konami is just going to keep the series alive on remakes and remasters, but it could be years before a new game actually happens.
