Marvel’s Wolverine may not be too far away from its long-awaited release. PlayStation is best known for its prestigious, cinematic exclusive single-player games. While these are largely born from original IP, PlayStation used this formula for one of the biggest superheroes in existence last-generation with Marvel’s Spider-Man. It was a massive hit that prompted PlayStation to acquire developer Insomniac Games and eventually give them the keys to one of Marvel’s other iconic characters: Wolverine. The X-Men hero’s last game was in 2009 with a tie-in game for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a game that was widely praised for its violent, but satisfying combat that felt like Marvel’s God of War.

Now, almost two decades later, we are getting Marvel’s Wolverine. The game was announced back in 2021 alongside the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but we haven’t really seen much from it outside of a brief CG trailer that didn’t have any story details or even a proper glimpse at Wolverine himself. Some gameplay footage and details on the new game leaked two years ago when Insomniac Games was hacked, but it was still only a rough look at what the developer was cooking up.
Marvel’s Wolverine Will Reportedly Release Next Year
With all of that said, rumors are swirling that Marvel’s Wolverine will get a new trailer as soon as later this month or possibly at The Game Awards in December. PlayStation has yet to confirm these rumors itself, but one can only hope. A new rumor may suggest that a new look at the game is around the corner as well as MP1st has claimed that Marvel’s Wolverine is releasing in 2026. The website wasn’t able to nail down a specific window on the game, but we can certainly speculate.
PlayStation has released games like the two Horizon games, Returnal, Days Gone, and God of War (2018) in the first few months of the year. The company also intended to release The Last of Us Part 2 in February 2020, but it was later delayed. It seems to be a window that PlayStation enjoys as there isn’t as much steep competition, something that may be particularly important this time as GTA 6 launches in May. All signs seem to suggest that Wolverine will be rated M, so unfortunately, it can’t target family friendly audiences to counter GTA 6.
As a result, if the game doesn’t launch in late winter/early spring, it seems likely Marvel’s Wolverine will be part of PlayStation’s fall line-up, likely holding a spot in September or November. Hopefully, PlayStation and Insomniac Games will be able to put a firm date on the game during the next showing, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Insomniac Games is also reportedly working on a Venom game which is rumored for 2027, but it has yet to be officially announced.
