There is a new free Steam game just released this week by the Vancouver Film School that is apparently pretty good. To this end, the PC game has 53 user reviews so far, and every single user review is positive, giving the Steam game a perfect 100% rating. Whether it will maintain this rating remains to be seen. And of course, it being completely free, with no microtransactions, inflates the reception in a positive direction. That said, it’s still an impressive feat, and one we don’t often see on Steam.

The new free Steam game is third-person shooter Not Raised by Wolves, which, as you can see below, has some serious old-school Ratchet & Clank and Jak and Daxter vibes. Like the former, it has an anthropomorphic protagonist, La Coyota, a gunslinger on a mission to rescue the colony’s pups from an ancient AI facility with the help of a robotic sidekick.
Free, But Not Very Long
While Not Raised by Wolves is 100% free, and while it boasts a 100% rating, don’t go into it expecting a fully-fledged game. As various Steam user reviews reveal, the game is only about an hour long, and it’s not the most robust experience. Nonetheless, PC users are enjoying it.
“Cool little shooter, great graphics – reminds me a lot of Ratchet and Clank! Worth a play,” reads one of these user reviews. Another adds: “VFS with another banger game. Great use of weakpoint design and character is very memorable.”
As other reviews note, not only is this a great experience for those who grew up during the peak of action games starring anthropomorphic characters, but it is a great palette cleanser between releases. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, you also have other options. For example, another sci-fi game was recently released, and it has been earning equally great user reviews. Meanwhile, if your budget is zero, the Epic Games Store has a new open-world survival game from 2024 with dozens of hours of content available for free right now.
Those on Steam Deck, specifically eying up this new free PC game, may run into trouble trying to get the title running on the handheld machine, as Steam Deck compatibility is listed as “Unknown.”
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum.
