A Nintendo Switch exclusive is finally getting released in the United States after a year-long wait. Unfortunately, there is no native Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game releasing, which means those on the new Nintendo console will need to settle for playing the Switch version via backward compatibility. That said, whether on the new console or the last-gen console, all those interested will still need to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the game.

The Nintendo Switch game in question is Stray Children, which is finally coming west on October 30 after releasing in Japan on December 26, 2024. In addition to coming west, the RPG is also coming to Steam on the same day. That said, there is no word of the title coming to Xbox or PlayStation platforms, so it will remain a console exclusive for Nintendo.
About the Game
For those unfamiliar with this 2024 release, Stray Children is an RPG where players play as a young boy who finds himself transported to a mysterious world after flipping a switch on an old console in a secret, ancient room. And in this new world, it’s a land of only children. However, beyond the walls of this child-only settlement are monstrous adults who will attack you. If this synopsis sounds odd, it’s because the game is odd, in a good way.
While Stray Children may be a new name for you, you may recognize the developer behind it: Onion Games. The Tokyo-based studio was founded in 2012 and has put out several games since then, including cult classic Moon: Remix RPG Adventure. The studio has a very distinct style, which is not for everyone, but it has found a loyal audience in the last decade or so.
While we have a release date for the Nintendo Switch exclusive, we do not have pricing information. That said, in Japan it costs ยฅ3,999, which is about $27 USD. To this end, it will presumably cost $30 USD, though $25 could be on the table. Meanwhile, when it does release, it looks poised to be limited to the Nintendo eShop. If there is a physical release in the works, it has not been announced, and if this changes, it will almost certainly be a limited physical release.
If this new Nintendo Switch RPG does not tickle your fancy, there are plenty of other games coming to both Switch consoles this month, including some great horror games for Halloween and the return of some of the best Nintendo games of all time.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Will you be picking up this Nintendo Switch game when it releases?
