Nintendo Switch Getting Smash Bros.-Style Fighting This Year With Brawlout

While we wait – patiently – for Nintendo to officially announce a Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch, we have a similar competitor that we'll be able to play on the system when it arrives later this year.

Angry Mob Games has confirmed that Brawlout, its Smash Bros.-esque multiplayer brawler, will be making its way to the Switch later this year. The game has been available on Steam Early Access for some time now, and is also planned to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year.

But on top of that, the company's making a big addition to the Steam version of the game, with the Hyper Light Drifter, from the game of the same name, being added as a combatant. To help celebrate his addition, it's available at 50 percent off its regular price on Steam for a limited time, going down to $9.99.

"We love indie games; one of the first, and most iconic, characters that came to mind was Hyper Light Drifter," says Bogdan Iliesiu, CEO of Angry Mob Games. "He fit into the Brawlout universe perfectly, as he is already built for the type of battle we see in the game. We collaborated closely with Heart Machine to make sure The Drifter remained true to the original, working in his iconic light sword and making his signature dash a character specific move. The Drifter brings a more technical style of combat to Brawlout, with tons of movement options and both defensive and offensive play, that we think he's going to become a staple for those looking for a competitive edge."

The game will likely be a big hit on Switch, featuring local and online multiplayer set-ups for up to four players, as well as a large range of characters. It's unknown if Hyper Light Drifter will be included in the cast with the console version, but we don't see why not. In fact, other characters could be added in the months ahead to beef up the roster.

The game doesn't have a release date or pricing yet, but it's likely to be around $19.99 (what the Steam version usually goes for), and is expected later this year. Let's brawl!
