Looks like Hakuoki isn't the only visual novel dating sim on the market where you need to save assorted love interests from becoming monsters. Song of Memories is set during an unfolding apocalypse-epidemic, where a dangerous virus threatens to turn everyone the player character cares for into horrific, demonic monsters. It's up to the player to not only save the other characters, but effectively romance at least one of them all the way to a good, virus-free end. Check out the fully-animated trailer for a look at the game play, and as a warning - because this is a dating sim - it's not exactly safe for work.

Fitting for an era where titles like Doki Doki Literature Club and Mystic Messenger dominate the dating sim market (depending on your demographic), Song of Memories challenges the player to not only choose the right things to say to their prospective love interests, but also monitor the ongoing crisis and identify it before it's too late. It looks like a fun and complex, if fan service-y title but if you weren't expecting that, I have some fairly bad news for you about dating sims.
