We already know that both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch had a huge weekend last month, with record sales between both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. What you may not know, however, is that they're making a killing in Japan as well.

Following Nintendo's replenishment of units that are available for sale overseas, Media Create recently posted a report indicating that the Nintendo Switch is doing incredibly well in Japan. The report shows that the system has sold 2.5 million units in the nine months following its initial release back in March – a new milestone for the company, and miles ahead of how the Wii U performed years ago.

But PlayStation 4 isn't doing too shabby either, as Media Create reported that the company has sold over 5.5 million PlayStation 4 units in Japan since its launch. The system took a while to get started, with sales being minimal within the first year and a half of its release. However, Sony has since picked up the number of games available for the system, increasing its popularity.

Now it's just a matter of seeing how the Switch will attempt to catch the 5.5 million mark. It probably won't take the three years' time that the PS4 took to reach that mark – in fact, more than likely, we'll see it reach it in mid-2018, if not a little bit later. It simply depends on the software Nintendo has in mind for the system – and judging by its earlier releases for 2017, we're in for a stellar gaming year indeed.

We'll keep you updated on how the Switch performs overseas, as well as the U.S. market. But it looks like Sony and Nintendo are going to be dominating for some time.

As for Xbox One…well, there's always the U.S. and U.K. markets, right?
