PlayStation Reportedly Releasing New PS5 Pro Model Very Soon

PlayStation is reportedly gearing up to release a new model of the PS5 Pro quite soon. At this point in time, it has been nearly one year since the PS5 Pro arrived on the scene. Since then, the upgraded PlayStation console has run into some problems, particularly when it comes to how developers are using its PSSR technology. Now, it sounds as though Sony is planning a new revision of the hardware, although it’s not exactly clear what will be changing just yet.

Coming by way of Dealabs, it has been claimed that Sony will soon be releasing an overhauled PS5 Pro in the future. This revamp of the console is said to be model number CFI-121 and should be released in Europe this coming week, beginning on September 30th. A launch in American markets isn’t yet known, but it seems likely.

As for what this new model of the PS5 Pro will actually do, it’s said to not be all that different from the current version that PlayStation is selling. The primary change to the console is anticipated to be one that will allow for better energy efficiency. This push to make PS5 consoles more energy efficient has been a big focus from Sony lately. The console’s physical design should then remain unaltered, as will the internal 2TB SSD.

What Does This Mean for PS5 Pro?

Assuming that this reporting is accurate, it suggests that there’s really nothing to worry about when it comes to these adjustments to the PS5 Pro. Sony has been known to release slight hardware revisions to its PlayStation consoles in the past, so this move is in line with what we’ve seen before.

For the 2TB SSD of the PS5 Pro to remain unaltered is particularly good news, as the same hasn’t always been said for other hardware tweaks. In fact, earlier this month, Sony released a new version of the PS5 Slim in Europe that brought the console’s internal storage down to 825GB from 1TB. This move is one that ended up being quite unpopular with fans, so it’s good to see that it won’t be happening again with the Pro line of consoles.

Perhaps the biggest problem with the PS5 Pro at the moment is its price. Sony recently increased the cost of the console to $750, which means that it now costs over $800 to purchase after tax. This hurdle, when combined with other struggles that the console has had, likely makes it a difficult sell for many PlayStation fans. Whether or not Sony can find a way to continue selling the hardware at a high rate in spite of these issues remains to be seen.
