A whole new set of Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. While we’re still probably a few months away from the release of “Gen 3” Pokemon, it’s never too early to start looking at some of the new Pokemon and see how they might impact the game. We’re going to take a look at all of the Pokemon that will be included in Pokemon Go‘s next wave of releases based on their types.
Today, we’re covering Ghost-Type Pokemon, which are pretty uncommon in Pokemon Go. Gen 3 will more than double the number of Ghost-Type Pokemon in the game, although most are pretty weak and ineffectual. Still, there’s one Ghost-Type Pokemon coming that will be useful and another that players should keep a hold of for next year. Here’s a look at the Ghost-Type Pokemon coming to Pokemon Go:

Shedinja
Shedinja is one of the Pokemon franchise’s weirdest Pokemon, an empty husk reanimated when Nincadaย evolves into Ninjask. This Pokemon also has one of the more disturbing Pokedex entries: it will supposedly steal the soul of anyone that looks into a hole in its back…a hole that trainers have no choice but looking at when they use it in battle.ย
Shedinjaย has an ability that makes it immune to any attack that isn’t Super Effective against it, which could prove tricky to implementย inย Pokemon Go.ย Because of its low stats, Shedinjaย will need that ability if it wants to have any use in the game.ย
Sableye
Sableye is a Dark/Ghost dual-type Pokemon that looks like a little demon with jeweled eyes. Sableyeย is actually based on the Hopkinsvilleย Goblin, an infamous alien encounter that supposedly occurred in Kentucky. Sableye’s appearance and movements were meant to mimic the Hopkinsvilleย Goblin, although most Pokemon fans won’t recognize the resemblance.ย
Before the introduction of Fairy-Type Pokemon, Sableyeย had no weaknesses in the Pokemon franchise, which made it somewhat useful despite its weak stats. However, since Fairy-Type Pokemon are in the game, Sableyeย won’t be very effective, at least not until Mega Evolutions are added toย Pokemon Go.ย ย
Shuppet and Banette
The cute little ghost Shuppetย evolves into the creepy looking Banette, a creepy looking Pokemon that resembles a reanimated doll. Banetteย mixes the traditions of a voodoo doll (as it sticks pins into itself to generate a “cursed energy”) and several Japanese traditions involving discarded toys.
Almost by default, Banetteย will become the second most powerful Ghost-Type Pokemon inย Pokemon Go. While it doesn’t have as high stats as Gengar, it still has a decent Attack stat and is resistant to Psychic-Type attacks, something that could be useful against several other powerful Gen 3 Pokemon.
Duskull and Dusclops
Duskullย and Dusclops areย weird Pokemon. Duskullย is a Pokemon version of the grim reaper, complete with a skull-like face and hood. Dusclopsย is a mix of a mummy and a Japanese spirit called aย Chลchin-obake, which is basically a haunted paper lantern.ย
Neither Ghost-Type Pokemon are particularly powerful, butย players might want to still stock up on this Pokemon for later.ย When Gen 4 Pokemon are introduced intoย Pokemon Go, Dusclopsย picks up an additional evolution, the powerful Dusknoir, which could end up being stronger than Gengar in terms of CP. Dusknoir’sย Defense stats will definitely be superior to Gengarย and it should also have a comparable Attack stat, so it could wind up on top of the ghost food chain as far asย Pokemon Goย is concerned.ย
