Your arsenal of fantastic Nintendo Switch controllers is about to grow even larger. Today, following a recent firmware update for the Nintendo Switch, it was revealed that the Pokken Tournament Pro Pads that were released with the original game on the Wii U will now work with the Switch. These are wired pads that were designed by HORI to be used exclusively with for Pokken Tournament.

The Pokken Pro Pad is a highly functional pad with a fantastic d-pad, and that d-pad is what makes it ideal for Pokken play. When the time comes, this will also make a great controller for Virtual Console games. It’s worth noting, however, that you can only use this controller wired directly into the Switch, and the controller itself doesn’t have any home or screenshot buttons, you’ll need to keep a Joy-Con around when you’re ready to exit the game.
If you’re thinking about picking one up, don’t worry: this controller doesn’t boast the same $70 price tag as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. In fact, how does $11 sound? That’s right. Right now you can score a limited edition Pikachu themed Pokken Pro Pad from GameStop for only $10.97 plus shipping. If you miss out on the deal, the regular price is only $15 so you’ll still be alright. You can find a link to the GameStop listing right here.
“Designed by HORI, the same designers of the official Pokkรฉn Tournament arcade cabinet controller, the Pokkรฉn Tournament Pro Pad is designed exclusively for use with Pokkรฉn Tournament for the Wii U. This is a limited edition Pikachu version featuring Pikachu colors and designs. This wired USB pad is ergonomic, comfortable, and super effective for controlling your favorite Pokรฉmon in Pokkรฉn Tournament battles. For $11, you can’t beat the price. This will be the perfect controller when Pokken Tournament DX drops on the Switch this September, and in the meantime it’s a perfectly serviceable backup controller.
