A popular new horror game that only launched a few weeks ago has now become upgraded for Steam Deck at the perfect time. Generally speaking, 2025 has been quite strong when it comes to horror releases. Games such as Silent Hill f, Dying Light: The Beast, and REPO are all joined by upcoming launches like Little Nightmares 3 and Alien: Rogue Incursion. Fortunately, for those who like to experience horror on-the-go by way of Steam Deck, one well-received game filled with plenty of spooks has now become much better on the hardware.

Announced today, developer Bloober Team revealed that its game Cronos: The New Dawn has received a sizable update on Steam Deck. While Cronos was Steam Deck verified upon its launch in early September, the game still had some problems, specifically with performance. Now, Bloober Team has looked to resolve those annoyances by releasing a native version of Cronos specifically designed to take advantage of the Steam Deck hardware.
“Today, we’ve released a native build of the game for Steam’s handheld console, which means even better performance on this platform,” Bloober Team wrote of this patch. “Enjoy Cronos on Steam, wherever you are!”
Is This Horror Game Worth Playing?
If you’re wondering if you should now play Cronos: The New Dawn on Steam Deck following this update, the general consensus would say yes. While Cronos didn’t light the world on fire upon its arrival, it did receive largely positive reviews, resulting in it sitting at a 77/100 on Metacritic. Some reviews, such as our own here at ComicBook, were a bit harsher on the game than others, but the consensus from those who have played it on Steam has resulted in it sitting at a “Very Positive” rating.
With the calendar having now turned over to October, it’s arguably the best time of the year to play horror games. While there are plenty of horror classics from the past that you could dive into, if you want something wholly new that has launched in 2025, Cronos: The New Dawn is one of your best options by far.
