Last week, Sega attempted to rejuvenate its old-school gaming side with the release of Sega Forever on mobile devices, which introduces a number of classic games from the company's older days for players to enjoy. So far, we've seen a few titles debut in the program, including Comix Zone and Kid Chameleon, and though there has been some criticism over the quality of the games, it seems to have mostly drawn up positive results.

But now there's a big question that comes with Sega Forever – what about a console release? After all, a program like this would be a huge hit with consoles, with players checking out a number of titles through the convenience of their Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, instead of having to fiddle with touch-screen controls.

Well, Sega is confidering it. The company's chief marketing director, Mike Evans, recently spoke to GamesIndustry International about the possibility of the games coming to consoles, and while there's nothing official, it is optimistic, to say the least.

"It's a huge project and what I really want to do is get mobile right," he explained. "After this, there are options: we can look at desktop, Facebook, we could even take these games to consoles like Switch."

Again, that's not an official confirmation, but there's no question that the Switch would be an ideal home for classic Sega games, especially Dreamcast titles, which would be highly enjoyed by the company's avid fanbase. And considering that Sega is getting along so well with Nintendo – Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania are coming to the Switch later this year – it should be no problem getting something working for it.

Of course, the real question is if Sega's program would get in the way of Nintendo's. The company's online plans, which will pan out next year, hope to introduce a number of classic games to the system, as part of its yearly membership benefits. Of course, details have yet to be revealed, but we'll see what happens in the months ahead.

You can check out Sega Forever on mobile devices now, but, yeah, let's keep our fingers crossed the program comes to the Switch, and other consoles!
