The SNES Classic Edition doesn’t really need any more hype (pre-orders opened today and immediately sold out), but Nintendo still went ahead and released a radical, badical, 90s-style trailer for the new mini console. You can check it out above.

In addition to being a charming throwback, the SNES Classic Edition trailer includes some key information about the system’s features. The biggest innovation is a new rewind feature that lets you dial back the many mistakes you’ll be making when playing the SNES Classic’s challenging old-school titles. Here’s how Nintendo describes the much-welcome feature:
New features are on the way for the upcoming Nintendo Classic Edition. Players can use the system’s Rewind feature to rewind their gameplay a little to attempt tricky sections again, pick up missed items, or simply run through a section again to see if anything was missed. The rewind time depends on the kind of game: players can go back a few minutes in role-playing games such as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, while action-oriented titles such as Super Mario World offer around 40 seconds, ideal for retrying small segments of gameplay.
The fact that you can rewind different amounts depending on the type of game is certainly interesting. I wonder if that’s some sort of technical limitation, or if Nintendo feels being able to rewind too far in action games might ruin the experience?
In addition to the rewind feature, you can now choose from a variety of frames to surround the gameplay, and, of course, can save anywhere with suspend points. Nintendo is definitely kicking their retro game up a notch.
The SNES Classic Edition hits shelves on September 29 – good luck getting your hands on one.
