A popular 2012 game just got Steam Deck Verified 13 years after its release. Previously, the Steam game was listed as “Playable” on Steam Deck. For those unsure what the differences are, “Playable” simply means the game is functional on Steam, from start to finish; however, it may require extra effort and configuration from the user. And of course, working and working well are two different things. Meanwhile, “Verified” refers to a Steam Deck game that has been tested by Valve, who, in turn, vouches that it not only works completely but also works well with the Steam Deck right out of the box.

The new Steam Deck Verified game in question is LEGO The Lord of the Rings, a 2012 release from developer Traveller’s Tales and publisher WB Games. As the name suggests, the game takes players through the events of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. That said, some of the scenes in the game are tweaked to be more family-friendly and comedic, which is par the course with LEGO games. Though the slapstick comedy in LEGO The Lord of the Rings is actually toned down compared to other LEGO games, by design, given the subject material is not very comedic in nature.
A Classic Game That Still Holds Up
Because it is a LEGO game — which is to say, not reliant on state-of-the-art graphics or gameplay — LEGO The Lord of the Rings still holds up in 2025, hence why it has been updated to allow for Steam Deck Verification. Back when it was originally released, the LEGO game earned a Metacritic score of 82, a very solid score in the context of that year and the context of the series’ history. It’s not just critics who enjoyed it, though. On Steam, for example, it has a “Very Positive” rating with Steam users, thanks to an 89% approval rating across 4,579 user reviews.
What’s Different?
So, what did the aforementioned duo update to get the game Steam Deck Verified? We do not know. The patch notes of the new update simply say, “This update was to get the title Steam Deck verified.” And that’s it. Clearly, changes were made, because previously it was only listed as “Playable,” but said changes don’t seem consequential, or at least said changes not being listed suggest as much.

Meanwhile, if this new Steam Deck game doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are other options. For example, one of 2025’s biggest Steam Deck games was recently verified as was one of 2025’s biggest horror games.
