The Last of Us Part II had a trailer shown recently during PlayStation's Paris Games Week announcements that left some viewers stunned after witnessing some extremely unsettling violence, but Sony says that they're confident in their game developers when it comes to those uncomfortable scenes.

The trailer for the continuation of The Last of Us was hard enough for some to watch on its own, but the trailer for Detroit: Become Human wasn't much easier to stomach, perhaps more distressing for people due to its subject matter. It showed a domestic abuse scene that might hit a bit too close to home for some, but speaking to VG247 during Paris Games Week, Sony says that they trust creators with "challenging content."

"It always has been that we trust in our creators," said Michael Denny, the senior vice president of Sony PlayStation. "It's about the experience and the game they want to make.

"Clearly, we're involved in producing that and if you're going to go into areas of challenging content we need to make sure it's done in an appropriate way as well," he continued. "Part of these things are about playing the game and putting them in context – making sure it's thought-provoking in the right way.

Denny also said that they've always hoped to be innovative with their titles while sometimes challenging what's expected in games as well. While you can expect violence to permeate The Last of Us Part II, Denny said that the scenes shown in Detroit: Become Human's trailer shouldn't be taken as a representation of the whole game, but rather as an example of the tough decisions players will face.

"I wouldn't say it was a central part of the game," he said. "It's a big part of that scene about Kara questioning her programming and whether she can react against her master in a very challenging circumstance."

He continued to explain that the game will feature more difficult choices revolving around new characters that'll make players think about the options and act quickly in hectic scenarios.
