The Last of Us Part II Reveals Shockingly Brutal New Trailer

Naughty Dog just released a brutal new trailer for The Last of Us Part II, which you can watch above. This trailer made its debut during the PlayStation showcase at Paris Games Week, and it shocked everyone in the audience and everyone watching remotely. We find a pair of mysterious characters who find themselves in a bit of a pickle, and things escalate very, very quickly. Toward the end of the trailer we get to experience the build-up before an onslaught of inhuman adversaries, but of course things cut away right before the going gets tough.

The mysterious woman we see throughout the trailer appears to be Ellie, which is almost hard to believe considering how freaking jacked and grown up she is. The rest of the characters are a complete mystery to us, and we haven't been introduced to any of them prior to this trailer. We also haven't seen Ellie as an adult, which means that the previous trailer must have been some kind of flashback.

Creative Director Neil Druckmann stated that The Last of Us Part II will utilize all of the technology, tricks, and engine improvements that have made Naughty Dog's past games such gorgeous wonders to behold. This brand new game represents the apex of Naughty Dog's talents. It's a gorgeous game, and it's obviously still brutally personal and uncomfortable to watch at times. This is going to be an emotional roller coaster.

So we have some returning fan favorite characters, several brand new characters that we've never seen before, Naughty Dog technology at its most refined, and a tried-and-true approach to narrative like no one else in the industry can replicate. This is shaping up to be a blockbuster next year, and we can't wait to see more of it!
