WoW Fans Can’t Get Enough of New MMORPG That Delivers Dungeon Crawls “With All the Fluff Removed”

When it comes to MMORPGs, few have captured a fan base quite as loyal as World of Warcraft fans. Despite its long history, sometimes, gamers want to try something new. That’s where upcoming MMORPGs often try to step in with a new angle on the WoW formula, with varying levels of success. And now, we’ve got a new contender. If you’ve poked around the Steam charts the last few days, you’ve likely noticed a new MMORPG called Fellowship climbing the ranks.

Fellowship entered Open Beta on September 19th and quickly captured a large audience eager for a solid dungeon-crawling experience. The game already snagged a top spot as one of the most-played Steam Next Fest demos earlier this year, and this free Open Beta is giving even more fans the chance to check it out. In particular, the game is attracting attention from fans of World of Warcraft for its co-op dungeon crawling vibes. And so far, players seem pretty impressed.

Fellowship Captures the Feeling of Mythic+ Dungeons from WoW and Fans Are Here For It

Though the name might initially give Lord of the Rings vibes, most early players are comparing Fellowship to World of Warcraft. Specifically, those who’ve enjoyed prior betas say it feels like Mythic+ dungeons, but streamlined. And for many gamers, that’s very much a good thing.

Fellowship offers online co-op for parties of 4 players. There’s an emphasis on crafting well-rounded parties, with tank, healer, and DPS characters to choose from. Once you create your team, it’s time for a dungeon run that will reap bountiful rewards to help you level up your characters for the next challenge. It offers a variety of bosses to contend with, each with a unique set of mechanics to ensure gameplay variety. Rather than an expansive world full of different things to do, this game pares it back and just focuses on the dungeon runs. And if the relatively steady player count since the Open Beta began is any indication, the formula is working.

Players who’ve checked out Fellowship so far say it’s “an extremely fun game” crafted by people who really understand what makes the Mythic+ dungeons in WoW so much fun. Though the lack of character customization is a downside for some, others love how this game makes it easier to just hop right in and enjoy the dungeon crawl. There are 7 pre-built classes available, and many early players say they’re loving the progression system so far.

For many gamers, Fellowship has one big leg up over WoW – it’s not a monthly subscription. When it launches into Early Access on October 16th, Fellowship will cost a one-time purchase of $24.99. Compared to the ongoing fees to stay current in WoW, this is pretty appealing for gamers who love a good multiplayer dungeon crawl but don’t necessarily play WoW enough to justify the cost.

The free Open Beta for Fellowship runs until September 23rd, so there’s a few more days to see what all the fuss is about for free. After that, Fellowship will launch into Early Access on October 16th.
