'Gremlins' Returning to Theaters This December

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the time has come to pop in your favorite holiday film to help you get in the spirit. While some people might prefer A Christmas Story or It's A Wonderful Life, others might prefer unconventional holiday fare like Gremlins. For those of you who prefer theatrical screenings to in-home viewings, Gremlins will be returning to theaters this December for limited engagements.

The nationwide event won't just include a screening of the movie, but will also include an exclusive conversation with the film's director, Joe Dante, a preview of Mondo's new Gremlins Collection and also be honored with a t-shirt specifically designed for the event.

Per the event's website:

The tale of a cute and furry Christmas gift that multiplies into many, many, many terrifying Christmas gifts, Gremlins is a sublimely perfect mix of comedy and horror. This December, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment presents a movie party celebration of the hilarious and wickedly scary 1984 film, featuring a special conversation with director Joe Dante that’ll take you behind the scenes of this all-time classic.

"This cinematic event will be beamed into theaters across the country. Just in time for the holidays, it’ll introduce Mondo’s new Gremlins Collection with a limited edition tee designed by Rhys Cooper, available exclusively with tickets at participating theaters.”

This might be the only way to see any version of Gremlins on the big screen anytime soon, as little progress has been made towards developing a third installment.

"I probably have less information to give you than anybody because I am not involved with it, I don't control the material, it's reverted back to Chris Columbus who wrote the script for the first movie," Dante confessed to Forbes. "They have plans to do something but what Chris wants to do may not be what Warner wants to do and it's not just Warner it's also a lot of other people like Amblin and Steven Spielberg - everyone has to agree on what they want to do and at this point nobody is going to figure that out."

The director admitted, "I think the reuniting of the cast is highly unlikely. Perhaps a Gremlins prequel might be something they will do but I don't know as I was not asked to be involved."
