Marvel is bringing the tandem of Cloak and Dagger to television thanks to its new deal with Freeform, and it’s spending a pretty penny on the two lesser known heroes to make sure their debut goes well.
According to NOLA.com, the Walt Disney Company has filed with the state of Louisiana for permission to film the first season. The more intriguing part is how much Disney is willing to spend, as the paperwork states the show’s budget is $42 million. $11.2 million of that will be spent in Louisana, as the shoot is expected to take place over 86 days. It also states that principal photography will begin in mid-February.

Freeform’s recent series Beyond has a 10 episode order, so it goes to figure Cloak and Dagger will have a similar amount of episodes. Doing the math that means the per episode number will be somewhere around $2.5 million. That’s less than the around $4 million per fee for Daredevil, but still higher than you might expect for a lower-tier Marvel character.
“This exciting new series is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apartโbut their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”
Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is scheduled to hit Freeform sometime in Winter of 2018.
