Vin Diesel has a huge first half of 2016, as he hits theaters this weekend in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, then follows that up with Fate of the Furious, the next Fast and Furious film, and closes out the spring with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But the actor and action star is already looking forward to 2018, when Avengers: Infinity War brings together the casts of Marvel's cosmic adventures and the more Earth-bound Avengers.

He's really looking forward to his character, the alien plant-man Groot, to meet one Avenger in particular. It's another brute with a penchant for less talk, more action: the incredible Hulk. Speaking with ScreenRant at the xXx junket, Diesel teased Groot's next couple of appearances.

"I'm excited about Baby Groot; he's just too fun," he said of his character in Guardians 2. After Groot sacrificed himself in the closing moments of Guardians of the Galaxy, he was reborn as a small sprout, which he'll remain for at least the majority of Vol. 2. But after this year's space epic, it's time for the MCU to clash good and proper, and Diesel can't wait.

"In Infinity War, I have to talk to the Russo brothers [directors of the film] and find out how this is all gonna go down. I know somewhere in the Marvel Universe, there is a moment when you will see Groot and Hulk have a few words," he teased. That's a pretty definitive statement that we'll see the bruisers of their respective teams get into some fisticuffs. "I think there's gonna be a moment that we're all waiting for, and whether you know it our not, you are waiting to see Groot and the Hulk get down."

Despite the cliimax of Guardians, we don't think that means a dance-off between powerhouses, though that would also be awesome (and Diesel has been known to show off his moves in live facebook videos).

Avengers: Infinity War is filming now for a May 2018 release. Before that, the MCU continues to expand with two more cosmic epics, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Thor: Ragnarok, as well as the Earth-bound Black Panther and the Sony/Marvel team-up Spider-Man: Homecoming. So while fans are certainly as anxious as Diesel is to see Groot and Hulk take each other on, even briefly, they have a lot to tide them over in the meantime.
