Baby Groot Plays With Fire On New Guardians of the Galaxy 2 poster

Marvel Studios has released a new and explosive international (Japanese) poster for their upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

It features the cute and adorable Baby Groot standing on a pile of dynamite. The rambunctious humanoid plant stares straight at the camera with a lovable, toothless smile carved into his woody face. He waves with his left hand and holds an unstruck match — which he prepares to light a fuse with — in his right.

“Whereas Groot was Rocket’s protector in the first movie, Rocket is Groot’s protector,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige explained during a set visit, “and they sort of all are in this movie, which was something we had talked about and planned on. It was one of those things, when we were making the first film, and we were just concentrating on making that film as great as it can be, there are always little things that we say, ‘Boy, if we get to make another one, it would be really fun.’ And from the moment we were shooting and animating Rocket on Groot shoulder, we were saying, on the next one, ‘We’ll reverse it. Wouldn’t that be cool?’ And that’s what we’re doing.”

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
