When Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters in 2018, fans know what they can expect from Earth’s mightiest heroes. Captain America will lead his team, Tony Stark will get depressed about his creations and make funny quips to try and cope, etc. However, no one really knows what to expect from the film’s major villain, Thanos.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the galactic bad guy will follow a storyline similar to the one in the major comic arc, The Infinity Gauntlet.
If you recall, Thanos wasn’t driven by hate or fear in the comics, but by a strange love. He was in love with Death, the mystical entity that wanted nothing more than universal destruction. In order to please her, Thanos tried to use the Infinity Gems (they’re called Infinity Stones in the MCU) to take down the entire galaxy.
It was common knowledge that Infinity War would follow Infinity Gauntlet to some extent, but no one was sure exactly how closely the two would be aligned. Many have wondered if Death would show up at all, or if Thanos would just be on some kind of galactic rampage.
When Collider asked Feige if Death would make an appearance in Infinity War, he kept his lips fairly sealed. He did however, hint that there would be some similarities from the comics for Thanos.
“[His motives] will be similar to what they were in the Infinity Gauntlet in various ways. I guess that’s all I can say about that.”
It’s not surprising that Feige couldn’t say more, as he wouldn’t want to spoil the studio’s biggest movie to-date.
Some people have been speculating that Hela – Cate Blanchett’s villain in Thor: Ragnarok – would be the MCU version of Death. She has a similar look, and that would help set up the character before Infinity War hits theaters. If this was the case, fans would already understand her power, and it would make plenty of sense for Thanos to be following her to the end of time.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
