“There are many but I don’t want to spoil you!.” Gunn said. “MOST of the songs for Vol. 3 are already chosen!”
The music of Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the things that set it apart from other superhero and big budget action movies. The use of Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” in the film’s first trailer has led to a trend of imitators using popular songs as hooks for their own trailers. Marvel itself isn’t innocent of this trend, using Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” to indicate the tonal shift in Thor: Ragnarok when compared to the previous Thor movies.
Awesome Mix Vol. 1, released separately from Tyler Bates’ Guardians of the Galaxy score, became the first soundtrack comprised entirely of previously released songs to reach the top spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart in the United States. The album has sold over 1.75 million copies in the United States and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. It is the second best-selling soundtrack of all time in the United States, behind Frozen.
Awesome Mix Vol. 2 topped out on the Billboard chart at number four. The album has sold 351,000 copies in the United States so far.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 currently has an 85.18 ComicBook.com Composite Score, the sixth-highest ComicBook.com Composite Score for a comic book movie of all time. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 also has a 3.99 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Rating, giving it the twelfth-highest ComicBook.com user rating among all comic book movies.
