Logan Ticket Sales Outpacing Previous X-Men Films

It's a good time to be an R-rated superhero film. Last year, the world went crazy over the raunchy comedy that was Deadpool. The NSFW film vindicated Ryan Reynolds' work as Wade Wilson, and the oddball action film had moviegoers flocking to theaters. Now, Logan is on track to do the same thing. The gritty film will bid farewell to Hugh Jackman's take on Wolverine after more than a decade, and the movie is churning out rave reviews.

With its premiere imminent, fans are already saddling up to get tickets for Logan. Many won't be surprised to hear ticket sales for the feature are doing just fine. In fact, according to Fandango, Logan's ticket sales are already beating those of previous X-Men movies. That is, if you overlook Deadpool.

The ticketing site has confirmed Logan has already outpaced sales for every other X-Men movie. Right now, forecasters predict Logan will have a smooth ride to the top of this weekend's box office. Worldwide, the film is expected to rake in more than $170 million if China doesn't push it higher. In the U.S., estimates suggest Logan will earn about $70 million, making it the second-best opening of a standalone Wolverine film. Back in 2009, X-Men Origins: Wolverine debuted to $85 million.

If Logan continues to bolster its global box office expectations, then 20th Century Fox will hit another milestone. The previous two standalone Wolverine flicks have raked in more than $787 million dollars. Logan only needs to earn $213 million over its entire run to make the franchise a billion dollar success. And, so far, it looks like the film will make that happen for the studio.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017. If you are excited for the film, then let us know with our Anticipation Rankings below! The movie is currently #3 on all of ComicBook.
