Yesterday, fans of Wolverine and Deadpool were living on Cloud 9 after a rumor about the duo began circulating online. According to reports, it seemed like Ryan Reynolds was supposed to bring Deadpool to life in Logan thanks to a cameo, but several key players from the 20th Century Fox shot down the possibility on social media. Now, Reynolds is clarifying whether those rumors were true or not.

Spoiler alert: They were totally false.

When a fan asked Reynolds whether the crossover was going to happen, the actor took to Twitter to tell the world that the answer was no.

“No,” the actor wrote. “I want a Deadpool/Wolvie film. But Logan is its own unique & perfect thing. The Big Red S**t-Talker wouldn’t mix with the tone.”

Of course, this is not the first time Reynolds has said the rumors were bunk. Yesterday, the actor said that “Prisoner 24601 is on a solo mission” when it comes to Logan, making a cheeky nod to Hugh Jackman’s role in Les Miserables.

“Sadly, not true,” Reynolds stressed. Director James Mangold seconded the statement, and Hugh Jackman took time to negate the rumor as well.

Of course, there are still fans hoping the trio are playing hard to get, but that outcome seems quite unlikely. Reynolds said it well when he pointed out that Deadpool’s persona would not mesh well with the final Wolverine standalone. The crass, NSFW would undoubtedly clash with the movie’s overall aesthetic – and Logan would not be happy to see him trespassing on his territory.

Yesterday, the rumor got started thanks to a report by The Wrap. The site alleged that Jackman’s last Wolverine outing would be paired with a Deadpool cameo. The article purported that Reynolds had recorded a short scene with director David Leitch.

Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
