Ant-Man may be tiny, but the hero’s fanbase is anything but that. Paul Rudd popularized the pint-sized hero in the MCU way back in 2015, and fans are geeking out over concept art of Scott Lang‘s original suit.

Over on Instagram, Andy Park got fans buzzing when uploaded some new Ant-Man artwork. The artist is known for designing costumes on films like Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy, and his new work of Scott Lang shines.
The artwork, which can be seen below, shows Scott donning a few different helmets.
“These are 1st pass concept design takes on Ant-Man on the1st film. They were looking for a retro non-Stark look. This was Hank Pym’s design sensibilities,” Park captioned.
“As usual we start with the source material & look at his comic book look. And then we take the needs of our movie & make sense of the two. I always enjoy doing these faster concept designs rather than more rendered illustrations especially in 1st passes. But a lot of times we need to do the more rendered version to help sell it.”
The helmets drawn by Park here are very different from the one Scott wound up wearing. These helmets have different visors, breathing apparatuses, and even antennae to deal with. Park and his team toyed with leaving part of Scott’s faced exposed with the mask, a choice which would have made the costume similar to Ant-Man’s comic book look. However, the concept artist felt Scott needed to be fully covered since the MCU treats the suit as a “containment” outfit.
“[Here’s a] closeup of of an Ant-Man concept design I did for his 1st film. The helmet was the approved helmet minus it showing Scott’s mouth. I know it’s more like the comic to have his mouth showing but the cinematic conceit of the suit is that it’s a containment suit,” Park explained.
“The Pym particles need to be contained inside the suit in order for him to shrink & to maintain his reduced size. I guess the same applies to growth as well. I loved designing all of Ant-Man’s suits in all his film appearances.”
