UPDATE: Apparently, Renner did NOT “break” himself on the set of Avengers: Infinity War. The actor recently released a statement with The Wrap confirming his injuries happened on the set of Tag, a comedy he is currently filming.
The life of an Avenger can be a dangerous one but this applies not only to the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also the actors portraying them.

Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner learned as much while on set of Avengers: Infinity War and performing stunts for his character. Speaking to an audience at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival during a press conference for his new Wind River film, Renner said he “broke his arms” during a stunt for the upcoming ensemble flick from Marvel Studios.
The actor did assure the audience that the injury would not affect his job. “I’m sort of a problem solver, you know. There will be an affect to it, but it won’t stop me from doing things that I need to be doing,” Renner said. “I’ll heal fast. I’m doing everything I can to heal faster.”
The actor is currently working on another project which is not Avengers related, overcoming the injury for the new film. “I’m doing a job that isn’t really requiring a ton of stunts: It’s not an action movie, it’s a comedy โ it just happens to have a few stunts in it. So I don’t have to beat a whole lot of people up or do anything crazy. So it won’t really affect my jobโฆ It affects how I get dressed in the morning. I can’t tie my shoes, but outside of that and everything else I can kind of get by.”
Among the characters spotted in set photos for Avengers: Infinity War recently, Hawkeye has not been among them despite appearing to be major action sequences. However, given the divide amongst the Avengers by the end of Captain America: Civil War, it is possible Clint Barton has elected to fight only at Captain America’s side or finally commit to retiring and spending time with his family. It’s hard to imagine a family-centric scene required arm-breaking stunts, though.
