The life of a super hero can be a bit troubling when it comes to having a love life. Captain America and Iron Man are both fully aware of this, as their love interests with Peggy Carter and Pepper Potts have proven more than difficult to maintain.

For the latest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the love stories might be a little different. Black Panther will be less like his Avenger pals and more like another on-screen icon: James Bond. When asked by EW about T’Challa’s love life, the actor playing Black Panther’s titular hero Chadwick Boseman is quick to make the comparison to the British secret agent.

“There’s no engagement that’s happening,” Boseman said. “He’s very James Bond-like. There’s always a possibility that there could be some other woman. I’m not going to tell you that there’s a triangle. You want me to say something about Monica Lynne.”

Monica Lynne is one of T’Challa’s numerous girl-friends on the pages of Marvel Comics. Boseman is billing Black Panther as quite a player when it comes to relationships, similar to the character fans know from comics.

“In the James Bond movies, there is always the girl but then in the next movie there is another girl,” Boseman said. “Lupita [Nyong’o] and I are always joking about that. She will say, ‘There better not be another woman in the next one!’ I’m like, ‘Hey, you better lock it down!’”

In the film, Black Panther will be surrounded by a number of powerful women, burdened with pledging their lives to protecting their King as members of the Dora Milaje. More specifically, Boseman has opened up Angela Basset’s role as Ramonda, the mother of T’Challa. “She is one of the advisors that he would look to,” Boseman said. “He has to look to her for some of the answers of what his father might want or might do. She may not be exactly right all the time, but she definitely has insights. The one thing I will say about all the female characters in this movie is that they are very strong. It’s a very matriarchal society. She is the queen mother. And she’s that for not just him, but for everybody. She’s has her hands in everything โ€“ even his love life.”

More details of Black Panther will continue to trickle out in the lead up to San Diego Comic Con later this month, with the expectation of a new trailer being released during the Marvel Studios panel. However, with D23 on the horizon, the possibility of Marvel getting a jump on the competition a week ahead of SDCC’s massive news bursts remains.
