MLB Star Carlos Correa Names Puppy After Guardians Of The Galaxy Character

The 2017 Major League Baseball regular season will begin this Sunday, and for many players around the league, it can’t come soon enough. While spring training is important to helping pitchers build-up arm strength for the long season ahead and to allow teams to evaluate prospects on the rise or on the fringe, it can be extremely dull for position players whose roster spot was never in question — especially ones as talented as 22-year-old Carlos Correa.

Luckily for the superstar shortstop, he was able to keep himself busy over the past month splitting his time between working out in spring training with his Houston Astros teammates, helping Team Puerto Rico reach the championship game at the World Baseball Classic (though losing to Team USA), and playing with his and his girlfriend’s (Daniella Rodriguez, Miss Texas 2016) new dog, Groot.

Instead discussing how the former American League Rookie of the Year will improve in his third season, everyone is talking about his adorable puppy. On Wednesday, Correa brought Groot onto the field and had the puppy fetch baseballs that he slapped across the diamond. Check out the video below!

Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
