As Marvel Television expands to new networks, the channel Freeform is steadily making progress on their first foray into the shared superhero universe with Cloak and Dagger.

And while we don’t know when exactly the show will premiere on TV, Freeform just announced that the series will air on Thursdays as a part of their lineup for 2018.
The announcement came alongside premiere dates for other new shows including the blackยทish spin off called grownยทish, focusing Yara Shahidi’s Zoey going to college. That show will premiere on Wednesday, January 3. Alone Together, starring stand-up comics Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo, premieres a week later on January 10. That show is produced by the Lonely Island team of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer.
Given that there hasn’t been an announcement of a premiere date alongside these shows, it seems like plans for Cloak and Dagger hasn’t quite firmed up.
The show films in New Orleans, which was recently hit by Hurricane Nate last week. That might have delayed the production, but there wasn’t an announcement so we can only speculate.
Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt star as the titular characters in the new show, which seems to be following in the footsteps of Marvel’s Runaways with a teen-focused approach.
Holt previously said to the Huffington Post that the show would be dealing with complex themes.
“I am really looking forward to everyone seeing it,” said Holt. “It’s a really honest show, and even though it’s about two superheroes, it really brings this truth behind kids who grow up in a broken home.”
In the comics, the two became superheroes after experimentation with a synthetic drug gave them their superpowers. It’s unclear how the show will alter those origins, but it looks to be a faithful adaptation of the source material.
“For the audience who doesn’t know about the comic, I think they’re really going to love it. And for the audience that grew up reading the comics, I think they’re going to love it even more,” Holt said.
Cloak and Dagger premieres sometime in 2018 on Freeform.
