The Comic-Con 2017 Movie Trailers Ranked

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 brought (less than) the expected amount of reveals and footage for some big upcoming geek-friendly movies, and the buzz from the convention is still going strong.

On the movie side of the things, both DC Films and Marvel Studios brought some epic new trailers to debut at SDCC, and even though this year, the cinematic offerings were less than with previous ‘Cons (Sony, Universal and Paramount sat out; Fox brought just one film), the quality (if not quantity) was high.

Here are The Top Comic-Con 2017, Ranked:

4. Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg is a master in creating cinematic fantasy and adventure – and he’s using both skills to craft Ready Player One, an adaptation of the popular book by Ernest Cline (who is helping with the screenplay).ย

The movie chronicles a treasure hunt in a world of video games, where we’ll see iconic movie figures like The Iron Giant making cameos. It’s a novel concept, and the sheer amount of fan service Easter eggs left theย crowd in Hall H pleasantly surprised and excited for what Spielberg has to offer.ย

However, since this was a new and previously unestablishedย film property, the excitement level forย Ready Player Oneย is still building.ย

3. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

20th Century Fox let a lot of fans down by not bringing any of the films currently planned or in production for its X-Men universe. Instead first footage fromย Deadpoolย 2ย orย X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Fox put all of its hopes on the mega-star-studded cast ofย Kingsman: The Golden Circle.ย

Granted, seeing stars like Channingย Tatum, Halleย Berry, Jeff Bridges, and Colin Firth on stage together was a one-of-a-kind novelty; however, the trailer forย Kingsmanย 2 –ย while crazy and fun and totally NSFWย – was not on the level of epicness that people sleep outside all night to get from Hall H.ย

2. Justice League

There were a ton of not-so-great rumors swirling around Justice Leagueย heading into Comic-Con, so instead of getting to take the lead or set the pace for the upcoming DC superheorย team-up event, Warner Bros. and DC Films unfortunately found themselves playing defense against negative speculation, once again.

Theย Justice Leagueย Comic-Con trailer was by far the most epic showcase of the film’s characters, story, and epic DCEU crossover moments thatย we’ve ever seen, but it wasn’t necessarily the mostย fun comic book movie trailer to ever hit the ‘Con.ย

That’s why the top spot for movies at this year’s convention goes to…ย

1. Thor: Ragnarok

The undisputedย winner of SDCCย 2017 was no doubtย Thor: Ragnarok! Marvel’sย third entry in the Thorย franchise unveiled a crazy and fun trailer, that had teases of more epic MCUย moments, team-ups and iconic villains than fans ever expected (Fenrisย Wolf and Surturย FTW!).ย

The key word in all of this is “fun.” Other Comic-Con trailers showcased awesome action and iconic moments/characters, but onlyย Ragnarokย seemed like it was crafted with true understanding of who the audience at Comic-Con is, and what really tickles their fancy.ย

We expect that anticipation forย Thor: Ragnarokย is now higher than ever – let us know how excited you are for it by voting in our anticipation rankings, below!ย
