Thor: Ragnarok takes inspiration from a number of places, including fan favorite Marvel Comics storylines like Planet Hulk and Ragnarok. That influence seems to have come from even more recent events, however, something a new comparison image brings to light.

Thor’s trusted hammer Mjölnir and his long golden locks will be taken from him when he is forced to fight as a gladiator on Sakaar. In the current comics, Thor no longer wields Mjolnir and is on the hunt for another hammer from the ultimate Marvel universe. A new comparison from Instagram user AccurateMCU shows both images side by side, and you can definitely tell there are similarities between the two. His hammer and hair are taken from him thanks to run as a gladiator in the arena of Sakaar, but he also mentions that there is no way that Mjolnir could just be taken away from a Thor without a good reason, which could lead to an Unworthy Thor-like storyline.

In Original Sin, Nick Fury whispered something to Thor which made him immediately drop the hammer, unable to pick it back up. Is something like that in store for Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok? It could be a possibility.

They are joined by Cate Blanchett (Hela), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Karl Urban (Skurge), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Sam Neill, Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk), and Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange).

Next up for Marvel is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
