Soon after the full-body photo of Brolin’s portrayal hit the Internet earlier today, Deadpool and Cable creator Rob Liefeld voiced his excitement about the photo on Instagram, pointing out a pretty direct parallel between the photo and one of Liefeld’s drawings of the character.
That particular drawing of Cable has graced the pages of Marvel Comics several times, including in a Cable #17 variant cover celebrating Marvel Comics’ 70th anniversary. While there are some small differences between the comic version and Brolin’s Deadpool 2 costume, the gun-over-shoulder pose and general aesthetic between the two are definitely the same.
Besides reassuring many fans that Deadpool 2‘s portrayal of Cable will appear comic accurate, the first look photos have revealed quite a bit about the much-anticipated character. Ryan Reynolds’ caption on one of the photos confirmed that Cable’s onscreen origins will involve time travel, and a closer look at the full-body shot may have confirmed the arrival of Cable’s adoptive daughter, Hope Summers.
Deadpool 2 currently has a 4.07 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating, making it the fifth most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers. Let us know how excited you are for Deadpool 2 by giving it your own anticipation rating below.
David Leitch (John Wick) will direct Deadpool 2, taking over for original Deadpool director Tim Miller. Ryan Reynolds will return as Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth. For the sequel, he’ll be joined by Josh Brolin as Cable. He has often been paired with Deadpool as his grim, serious demeanor serves as the perfect foil to Deadpool’s crude and zany humor.
Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on June 1, 2018.
