On the pages of Marvel Comics, the Mutant Response Division was founded by Bolivar Trask. The character has already been introduced to 20th Century Fox‘s X-Men universe with Peter Dinklage in the part for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Dinklage’s portrayal of the character, however, may not be canon to Deadpool‘s timeline in the ever-confusing 20th Century Fox X-Men world.
The Mutant Response Division, often referred to as MRD, was formed after incidents catalyzed by the Leper Queen. The X-Force team managed to stop some of her plans, but not before she had unleashed a modified strain of the Legacy Virus, causing several mutants to go berserk and kill themselves as well as thousands of surrounding humans.
More details regarding the MRD’s role in Deadpool 2 will be revealed when the film hits theaters next year, bringing Ryan Reynolds back to the titular role with Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz joining him under David Leitch’s direction.
Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on June 1, 2018.
