Netflix Content Chief Suggests 'Defenders' Isn't Leaving

Even with the Disney streaming service on the horizon, it looks like Netflix may be holding on to all of its Defenders after all.

Many of Disney's properties, including the Marvel films, will be heading to the company's upcoming streaming service, which is set to debut in 2019. Since this news broke, fans have been wondering about the future of shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher and The Defenders, since they seem a little too R-rated for Disney and were produced as Netflix originals.

Fortunately, it seems as though Netflix will be holding onto the rugged Marvel series when Disney's service launches.

On Monday, Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos talked to investors about the split with Disney. While he couldn't offer too much insight into what the separation will look like, he did mention that The Defenders were staying put.

"They've created some killer brands," Sarandos said of Disney, but he continued by pointing out that the studio didn't control everything that had the Marvel label on it. "It's not that exclusive... Netflix has The Defenders."

Disney will certainly move forward with more Marvel original series on its streaming platform, but fans of the Netflix brand of superhero can sleep soundly. The Defenders are holding steady on Netflix, at least for now.
