Last night, Marvel Studios released a new teaser announcing that production has begun on Avengers: Infinity War, the culmination that the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building towards.
One of the most exciting things shown in the teaser was a first look at the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The concept art shows Rocket Raccoon battling alongside Thor.
Something of interest in that piece of art was that Thor seemed to be wielding a weapon other than Mjolnir, or at least not the Mjolnir fans are used to seeing. We've already speculated that the weapon may be a version of the Ultimate Mjolnir, but there is another possibility.
Thor wasn't always worth of Mjolnir, but that doesn't mean he didn't fight like a god. The young thor fought with a different weapon in Mjolnir's stead, a battle ax forged by the Dwarfs of Nidavellir. That ax is named Jarnbjorn that was enchanted to become indestructible.
The concept art makes the head of Thor's weapon look flat, more like an ax than a hammer. There's also an ax casually hanging out in the back of this photo from the set of Thor: Ragnarok.

According to Marvel Comic history, Thor wielded Jarbjorn for centuries, using it to battle mortals, dragons, and Frost Giants. At some point, Thor lost Jarnbjorn, and Kang the Conqueror later recovered it from Baron Mordo's tomb. Following a battle with Kang and the Apocalypse Twins, Thor recovered Jarnbjorn. At first, it was placed in the armory of Asgard, but since Thor has become unworthy of Mjolnir he has been wielding his old battle ax again.
Does that mean that Thor becomes of unworthy of Mjolnir in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Possibly. Since we still don't know exactly what made Thor unworthy in the Marvel Comics Universe, beyond it being something that Nick Fury whispered in Thor's ear, it is hard to speculate on that account. Could Mjolnir have been destroyed or taken from Thor? That's hard to fathom, but it could be possible.
Something to note about Jarnbjorn is that Thor, in the Marvel Comics Universe, once used it to battle Apocalypse when both characters were relatively young. Apocalypse's Celestial armor proved difficult to penetrate, so Thor blessed his Jarnbjorn with his own blood so that it could slice through even the armor of a Celestial.
Thanos is an Eternal, a race of being empowered by genetic modifications orchestrated by the Celestials, the same beings who were once keepers of the Infinity Stones. Perhaps, Avengers; Infinity War is partly inspired by the battle between Thor and Apocalypse and Thor will use Jarnbjorn to wound Thanos, the Mad Titan.
