Director James Gunn, the mastermind behind bringing the Guardians to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, says the deep family-based arcs are his favorite part of the film.
“My favorite part is the center emotional storylines. The stuff between Ego and Quill; between Nebula and Gamora; between Rocket and Yondu,” Gunn told Fandango in a recent interview. “These are all sort of new family relationships that have a lot of deep emotional aspects to them. It’s fun to make them play in this huge action-adventure film.”
In Vol. 2, Ego (Kurt Russell) is revealed as Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) long-lost father while Nebula and Gamora try to rekindle their sisterly relationship after the former tried killing the whole team on behalf of Ronan and Thanos in the original Guardians of the Galaxy.
