Jason David Frank isn’t letting the alleged attempt on his life at Phoenix Comicon by a man who reportedly claimed to be the Punisher deter him appreciating some time spent with Jon Bernthal, the actor who actually plays the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Bernthal was also in attendance at Phoenix Comicon and, according to a post on Facebook, Frank spent some time with Bernthal and his family.

Frank commemorated the occasion with a photo he shared on Facebook featuring himself, wearing a Punisher ballcap, with Bernthal as well as the two Phoenix police officers assigned to guard Frank for the duration of the event.

“That’s what’s up!!,” Frank wrote on social media. “#Phoenixpolice #punisher always a pleaser to see you @therealjonnybernthal is a down to earth friend. Great meeting your family too Jon. That’s to these 2 fellow police men for keeping me safe!!”

Matthew Sterling was dressed as the Punisher in body armor and carrying a shotgun, three handguns, ammunition, a tactical knife, and pepper spray when he slipped by security at Phoenix Comicon. Sterling sent text messages and photos of potential targets to Los Angeles-based musician Rayko Dig hinting at potential targets, including Frank, and a desire to have a violent confrontation with the police. Dig alerted law enforcement, who apprehended Sterling at the convention before he could use any of his weapons, though he did struggle.

Jon Bernthal debuted as the Punisher in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. Bernthal’s character proved popular enough to become the first character to spinoff from one of Marvel’s Netflix shows into his own Netflix series.

As the Punisher, Frank Castle uses any means necessary to dish out lethal justice to criminals in New York City.

Marvel’s The Punisher is being developed by Steve Lightfoot for Netflix. Lightfoot will serve as showrunner.

Bernthal will star alongside Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson.

Production on the first season of The Punisher commenced in October 2016 and concluded in April 2017. The series is expected to debut on Netflix in 2017, at some point after The Defenders releases in August.

The Punisher was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists Jon Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. He made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974.
