After months of preparation and teases, the world finally got its first look at Josh Brolin as the time-displaced, Apocalypse huntin’ mutant known as Cable. Fans reacted positively, but few were as proud as the character’s creator Rob Liefeld.

ComicBook.com managed to catch up with Liefeld to gauge his reaction to the image of Brolin as the X-Force leader, who is set to debut in next year’s Deadpool 2.

“All I’m getting is just euphoria, euphoria, euphoria,” Liefeld said, “people are so thrilled.”

While it should’t come as a surprise Liefeld’s getting no small amount of joy from the image, he provided ComicBook.com with his own thorough breakdown and analysis of Brolin’s appearance.

Most of us are already pretty excited about Deadpool 2, but check out Liefeld’s full statement and appreciate how much pride Cable’s creator is getting from the faithfulness of the image and the fans’ positive buzz.

Liefeld’s Reaction

“The detail is crazy,” Liefeld said. “But for me it always starts with the face. You’ve got to nail the look on the face, that’s what we identify with.”

Liefeld created Cable with multiple visual cues, but one in particular stands out to him.

“And that scar, come on, take a deep look at that scar,” he added. “That is one wonderful work of art.”

Liefeld was arguably the biggest cheerleader for the first Deadpool movie and Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of the character, so his reaction to Cable’s appearance might be causing a slight case of deja vu.

“All I’m getting is just euphoria, euphoria, euphoria; people are so thrilled. Just the face, he’s got that stubble, I mean, he’s grizzled. And again, you know he’s going to kill, he’s Josh Brolin. This is not an unknown actor. He is such a fantastic actor. He nails it, and come on that sizable gun he’s wielding, that bionic arm.”

More Deadpool 2

It’s safe to say that this we’ll see a lot more of Deadpool 2 ahead of its release, given how the actors have utilized social media to promote the film. We’re excited to learn more about the movie โ€” and see more of Liefeld’s enthusiasm for the project.

But there’s still so much to learn! Like, what’s with the teddy bear? Are we going to see Hope Summers? Will Cable reference Apocalypse or his dad Cyclops? And what about Stryfe?

We can’t wait to find out, but for now we’re just going to have to be patientโ€ฆ at least until the next Instagram reveal.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters June 1, 2018.
