Spoilers incoming for Deadpool #31, so you’ve been warned.

Phil Coulson has been on the trail of Captain America for a bit now, cloning his mobile device and setting up shop in a Nick Fury safehouse while he investigates the actions of his favorite hero. He even managed to track down the Chitauri Queen that Cap planted on Earth to draw their armies to the planet.

Last issue Coulson is shot down by Deadpool, causing Lola to crash to the ground. This issue picks up with a prolonged chase as Coulson tries to make it back to his safehouse. Deadpool manages to get his hand in the door before it can fully close though, as Coulson pleads “You’re on the wrong side!”, to which Deadpool says “Ask yourself. Has anybody ever said that about Captain America and been right?”

Coulson realizes he could’ve stopped whatever Cap is planning, but he doesn’t have much time to ponder as Deadpool gets his gun in the door and shoots him in the chest, leaving Coulson to bleed out on the floor. He then walks outside and blows the safehouse, putting a great deal of doubt in any chances that Coulson could’ve survived.

It’s then that a conversation between Steve Rogers and Deadpool is revealed, where Rogers asks Wade to find Coulson. After he asks for a private channel, Rogers also adds “I need you to kill Coulson on sight. For the good of the country.”

Cap gave Wade a chance before and even made him an Avengers, so in Wade’s eyes, this was the right call. Still, for Coulson fans, this seems to be the end of the line.
