The Defenders Won’t Be The TV Equivalent Of The Avengers

If you think Marvel’s The Defenders is Marvel’s The Avengers done for television, you’ve got the wrong idea.

At least that’s what executive producer Marco Ramirez has to say about it, explaining that the Defenders isn’t your typical superhero team.

“This is not the kind of the show where they’re ever going to have a headquarters,” Ramirez tells ET Online. “No one is going to get fitted for suits. No one gets T-shirts. Jessica’s going to look at Danny and say, ‘Your fists don’t make any sense.’”

In other words, Marvel’s The Defenders isn’t the show for high-flying super-heroics.

“If the superhero fights are happening the sky, these people are fighting in the back alleys and the sh**ty bars,” Ramirez said.

Marvel fans should get ready to get down and dirty with The Defenders when the series premieres on Netflix in August.

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Marvel’s The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Marvel’s Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel’s The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
