The original user of the suit was Peter Parker as part of the original Secret Wars. After he was able to break free of the suit, it transferred to Eddie Brock. A few years ago it switched to Mac Gargan (the Scorpion), and most recently it attached to Flash Thompson, which gave him back the use of his legs. The character has been adventuring within the pages of Venom: Space Knight and even in Guardians of the Galaxy, but due to events in Space Knight, has decided to stay on earth rather than returning to the cosmos.
That has given the symbiote reason enough to seek out a new host, but as to who that will eventually be is unknown, or why it seeks a new host out in the first place, as Thompson was still using the suit in the last issue. Regardless of why someone else will soon be the bearer of the powerful symbiote, and Marvel has released an updated preview of the book that can be found in the gallery.
In addition to the preview, you can also find a collection of launch variants, which include covers by Ron Lim, Rick Leonardi, the action figure variant by John Tyler Christopher, the Hip-Hop variant by Bill Sienkiewicz, and the top secret artist variant from Todd McFarlane. The new Venom series is being written by Mike Costa with art by Gerardo Sandoval.
