Marvel teased the upcoming introduction with a new image of a white haired woman named Voyager. Her costume is made up of mostly yellow with black gloves and boots. A red scarf is the only other color on her suit, and the teaser only features the words “Who is Voyager?”.
Theories have already popped up as to who this character is, with some suggesting that it is Marvel’s way of working in the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 version of Ayesha into the comics. That character is more often referred to as Kismet thanks to her adventures with Quasar, so maybe this is their way of giving the character a new spin.
That’s just one theory though. Another is that Voyager is a new interpretation of the Goddess, a being who attempted to cleanse the world by essentially getting rid of it and starting over, but was defeated by Adam Warlock and Thanos.
She also looks a great deal like Phyla-Vell, though as opposed to the other two on this list she is currently not among the living. She was killed by Thanos, though Legacy is all about new life and fresh starts, so maybe Voyager is a way to bring Phyla-Vell back from the afterlife.
Of course, Voyager could also just be a completely new character, but what purpose does she serve? It will likely have to do with the new Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C., a storyline that will lay the foundation for several new storylines and epics to be seen later in the Legacy run. As Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada reveals though, it will also be a way to celebrate the Marvel Universe’s achievements thus far.
“The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it’s a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics,” Quesada said. “It’s a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories. All of which kicks off with the giant Marvel Legacy special.”
