San Diego Comic-Con 2017 is kicking off, and of course, as always, Marvel Studios is one of the top panels at the convention!

Since the late 2000s, Marvel has become famous for shutting down SDCC on Saturday night, with the biggest headlining-grabbing Hall H presentations possible. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe branches out into some its biggest films ever, there are already rumblings that this year’s Hall H panel will bring the most epic sizzle reel of footage ever seen – with some big new reveals possibly in store, as well.
As we here at Comicbook.com venture into the jungle of downtown San Diego to bring you the latest news and celebrity interviews, we also thought it would be good to get an overview of what we expect Marvel Studios to bring to SDCC17.
Read below for What to Expect from Marvel Studios’ 2017 Comic-Con Panel.
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity Warย is the biggest Marvel movie of all time, without a doubt. The blockbuster crossover event will bring every oneย of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films together, as the heroes try to save the universe from Thanosย The Mad Titan and his Black Order gang.ย
Infinity Warย already captured the limelight at the D23 Expo this past weekend, with footage that only made fan that much more excited to see the film. It’s a no-brainerย that Marvel Studios will go for a similar seismic impact at SDCC, by both showing off theย Infinity Warย footage, and having the massive cast assemble onstage for a one of a kind photo op.ย

Phase 3 Next On Deck
Marvel has two highly-anticipated films that are already pretty far down the pipeline: Thor: Ragnarokย in November andย Black Pantherย in February.ย
With both films having already dropped well-received first trailers, the obvious play for SDCCย would be to give fans a deeper look at each film, with effects work that’s a lot more complete than what we saw in the first teasers.ย
We expect to see aย combination of new scene clips and new trailers for each film – trailers which will hopefully be released online to the public, soon after!
Ant-Man & Wasp FIrstย Look
Despite being one of the most underrated MCUย films around, Paul Rudd’sย Ant-Manย has grabbed a lot of fans, and anticipation for his (semi-)solo sequel, Ant-Man and the Waspย is higher than it ever was for the first film.ย
Ant-Man and the Waspย has been gaining a lot of buzz in recent weeks (pun) as it starts production. Notable headlines include someย first looks at the MCUย version of Wasp (Evangeline Lily) and some big casting deals (Walton Goggins) that could lead to reveals of big new Marvel characters joining the MCU.ย
While production isn’t too far along, we do expect that there’s already enough toย Ant-Man and the Waspย for Marvel Studios to bring some concept footage or a nice featurette to Hall H at SDCC, revealing new costumes and character art, while introducing the crowd to both the new and returning cast members.ย
Captain Marvel Costume & Story Details
After DC’sย Wonder Womanย smashed glass ceilings and box office records for female superheroes, the pressure is now on Marvel Studios to deliver another progressive blow with its Captain Marvelย movie starring Brie Larson.ย
In April, we learned that Mississippi Grindย directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are helmingย Captain Marvel, but that announcement hasn’t had as much impact as Marvel probably hoped.ย
Heading into SDCCย 2017, we expect Marvel to ride theย Wonder Womanย wave by promotingย Captain Marvelย in some kind of big way. Production doesn’t get underway until February, but Larson could have already filmed some kind of teaser promo meant specifically for the Hall H crowd. Any kind of reveal of the official Captain Marvel costume would be enough to get the hype machine going.ย
In addition to the costume: any story or villain details would be considered “juicy material”; as would an explanation of where Captain Marvel fits into the two chapters ofย Infinity War.ย
Avengers 4 Title
For a long time, Marvel plannedย Avengers: Inifnityย Warย as a two-part event film – however, in the last year, the studio has made it abundantly clear thatย Avengers 3ย andย Avengers 4ย will be two standalone films.ย
While we expect to see and learn a lot more aboutย Avengers: Infinity War while at Comic-Con 2017, there is still something of a lingering mystery around whatย Avengers 4ย will be all about – or what it even will be called.ย
Marvel Studios is as good at teasing the next chapter of its cinematic saga during Hall H panels as it is actually rrevealingย new material – so we won’t be surprised if part of their panel (or the whole show) ends with the big tease of anย Avengers 4ย title that will have fans speculating and debating for the next year.ย
Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel Title & Director Confirmation
Besides teasing the films it hasn’t released yet, or hyping films that haven’t even gone into production yet, Marvel Studios also likes to use its time in Hall H at Comic-Con to celebrate recent victories it has won.ย
The most recent victory on the studio’s long line of wins is no doubtย Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel’sย milestone partnership with Sony, which brought Spider-Man home to his fellow superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Withย Homecomingย now officially certified as one of if not THE most successful Spider-Man movie ever, Marvel will likely want to promote the franchise (for anyone who hasn’t seen the film yet) – and tease the future.ย
While Sony is responsible for big spinoffย films likeย Tom Hardy’sย Venom,ย Marvel Studios can still promote two important things in the Spider-Man franchise:ย
- Homecomingย director Jon Watts officially signing on for the sequel.
- What the sequel’s official title will be.ย
Depending on the subject matter of the sequel (which will reportedly begin right after the events ofย Avengers 4), a title reveal could get Hall H roaring.
