When it comes to easter eggs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe cannot be beat. The franchise will usher in its tenth year in 2018, and the MCU still has projects left to debut in 2017. Netflix will roll out Marvel’s The Defenders come August, and the show’s latest trailer features one sneaky Avengers easter egg.

Earlier today, an international trailer for The Defenders dropped featuring Stan Lee. The comic icon narrated the footage for fans as the trailer shows each of the Defenders working around New York. During one quick shot, Lee is seen driving by a billboard depicting a press conference from Iron Fist. The reel shows Danny Rand as he announces his shocking return to New York, but it’s the poster next to the ad that has fans buzzing.
As you can see below, a large poster is pinned up next to the Iron Fist billboard. The image plastered on the advert is advertising the Avengers and Stark Industries. The blink-and-miss-it billboard shows Captain America’s shield sitting amongst the rubble of destroyed city. The text “America to the rescue” can be seen printed above the weapon.
So, it looks like the MCU is still floating Captain America’s shield even after his very public Avengers rift in Captain America: Civil War…
The trailer also houses another MCU easter egg nodding to Jessica Jones. A billboard for Trish Talk can be seen underneath the Avengers advert, but fans are most interested in the top easter egg.
After all, the Netflix side of the MCU tends to be gun-shy about making any Avengers nods. When Daredevil released its first season, the show carried some overt references to the Hulk and Thor, but Marvel’s most recent series have honed in more so on obscure comic references.
The Defenders will bring phase one of the Netflix Marvel universe to a close, and will likely set up the next big phase of the universe. In addition to the core four shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), the universe will also be adding a Punisher series to its schedule, though no release date has been announced.
The Defenders stars Charlie Cox (Daredevil/Matt Murdock), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Sigourney Weaver (Alexandra), Elodie Yung (Elektra Natchios), Babs Olusanmokun (Sowande), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rachel Taylor (Trish Walker), Scott Glenn (Stick), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), Debbi Morgan (Delores), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page).
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are all available on Netflix now, while The Defenders is expected later in the year. The Punisher does not currently have a release date. Netflix has announced a second season of Jessica Jones and a third season of Daredevil, but no release dates have been announced for those either.
